Our Story
Hooper Quinn has a deeply personal story, centred around a number of life-changing challenges and a life-saving passion for engineering.
Our founder had a tentative start to life, undergoing a number of complicated open-heart surgeries from early infancy to adolescence. It was while on the long road to recovery that Greg became absorbed in engineering, discovering in it not only a life-long source for creativity and innovation, but also the drive to seek out new challenges. From 9 years old he was building engines, model boats, aircraft, rockets, and musical instruments, and by the age of 14—on the day of discharge following surgery—he began building his first car, finishing it within a year.
Following a host of other projects, Greg went on to specialise in gas turbine design during his studies at Loughborough University, which led to his work in aerospace engineering with Rolls Royce, before becoming a part of the team that would create the most advanced engine in the world—the Mercedes-AMG V6 turbo hybrid engine—which went on to win a record-setting 8 Formula 1 World-Championships.
A desire to help the environment led Greg to transfer the knowledge and standards of Formula 1 and aerospace engineering and apply them to “green technologies”. Having committed to researching and overcoming the key engineering challenges in this sector, he went on to develop high-efficiency engine concepts, all-electric powerboats, and motors that function without rare-earth magnets.
Over the past six years, Greg has been building a reputation as a highly respected engineering consultant, taking the lead on multiple projects spanning a variety of sectors. And with Hooper Quinn, he continues to invest energy into engineering projects, supporting innovators and business teams to make a difference in the world through the creation of outstanding products.
Today, Hooper Quinn is a thriving engineering consultancy, driven by a group of talented individuals and founded on a foundation of organic and tightly held values. We look to the future with great enthusiasm and hope only to expand our work on engaging and impactful projects, which empower our clients and make a real difference in the world.
But we never forget our origins. That’s why Hooper Quinn has pledged to donate a portion of its yearly income to the British Heart Foundation.
